Progressive Trance

Techno is believed to be a progenitor of progressive trance that`s typified by 4/4 beats and simple repetitive bass lines.

The Spanish island Ibiza is the birthplace place of progressive trance. Progressive trance first appeared in 1993 with the legendary track «Café Del Mar» by Energy 52. The most notable representatives of the style include Chicane «Offshore», Nalin and Kane «Beachball».

Progressive trance borrowed its structure from eurodance (CultureBeat, 2Unlimited): verse – chorus – verse – chorus – pause – double verse.

Gradually, producers stopped the usage of trance synth sounds and began to make an emphasis on melodies, vocals, and acoustic lines. In 1998 the first progressive trance track was released, it was Paul van Dyk`s «For an Angel».
